The Institute is holding its first Diabetes Self-Management and Education Support (DSMES) class to provide diabetes self-management and prevention education to vulnerable individuals. Our evidence-based curriculum developed by Gateway Laredo FQHC aims to teach participants about diabetes, improve glucose control, facilitate better communication with healthcare teams, and connect them with a medical home.
According to the American Diabetes Association, The Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists, and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, DSMES has been demonstrated to be a cost-effective solution to reduce hospital admissions, readmissions, and lifetime healthcare costs related to a lower risk for complications. Patients living with diabetes who participate in DSMES see a positive effect on clinical, psychosocial, and behavioral aspects of diabetes, as well as an improved quality of life, enhanced self-efficacy, and empowerment.
Join us in person at the Institute for our Faith & Diabetes DSMES class starting on Saturday, April 27th, at 10:30 AM! The workshop dates are April 27, May 4, 11, 18, and 25. Register today to join this five-week class series.
