According to the CDC, millions of US adults are living with prediabetes; a condition where blood glucose levels are higher than normal, but not high enough for a diagnosis of diabetes type 2. Progression to diabetes is not inevitable. However, without intervention, prediabetes is likely to become type 2 diabetes within 10 years.
Lifestyle and behavior modifications, which can include weight loss, physical activity, smoking cessation, stress reduction, and medications, it is possible to reduce glucose levels to normal range and prevent type 2 diabetes. Basically with action, diabetes risk can be reduced, and prediabetes may be reversed.
You may be at risk for prediabetes...
If you are over 45 years of age
If you have a parent or sibling with diabetes
If you are not physically active at least three times a week
If you are overweight
If you had gestational diabetes during pregnancy
